Custom MCM by Harold Esten in Hammond Wood – $749K; Open Sunday

Posted by Michael Shapiro at April 27. 2011

Located in the National Register of Historic Places-designated neighborhood of Hammond Wood, the Esten House is a one-of-a-kind home designed by Harold Esten, one of Washington’s leading mid-century modern architects. Esten, who designed the home for his own family, built the modernist white brick structure with flat roof in the early 1970s around an existing 1951 small builder home by Charles Goodman. Esten was an associate of Goodman’s firm in the early 1950s when he bought the house. He later launched his own successful modernist practice. He won numerous award for his work and even had one of his houses on Crail Drive in Bethesda featured in Arts and Architecture.

I will be holding an open house this Sunday (May 1) from 1 to 4 pm.
