These 2 Lustrons are in my neighborhood.
4122 McDonald St Louis MO 63116
4123 McDonald St Louis MO 63116

I never would have noticed they were anything unique if somebody hadn't told me about them a couple of years ago. I understand they are relatively easy to dismantel and move. Maybe someone could set up a field trip (Angie? Dan?) to see the period furnished ones.

There was a recent ebay auction and sale of another Lustron, which required it to be removed from the lot by Dec 31 of this year. It is 224 Simmons in Webster Groves. I've been doing periodic drive-bys to check on disassembly progress, but it does not appear to have begun. I'll post an update on this in the event anyone wants to see in person different stages of dismantling the Lustron.

For some great online photo tours of Lustrons, here are some links that you can visit:

This is a great story on two Minneapolis Lustrons. One very original condition and furnished mid-century modern; the other repainted full exterior and modified inside with very modern interior decor. Be sure to visit the photo gallery for these two within the article or directly with this link:

This link includes some great historical data, as well as some great photo tours of the house, the factory and construction photos.

This is my website where I have some recent photo slideshows (linked on the right panel of homepage). There is a home that was just demolished a block from me, a Lustron flooded by Hurricane Katrina, and a Lustron in north county that was damaged by a car impact, with updates images on the repairs that were possible from the purchase and salvage of a Centralia, IL Lustron. I also have some local Lustron photos posted on flickr, as well as demo photos of the first local Lustron razed this current year. http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/lustron/

This link is of a very well researched, extensive story with many local residents interviewed and local Lustrons photographed.

This link has several eastern state Lustrons, as well as a good collection of other mid-century architecture snapshot galleries.

And finally, the best first-source for photos, historical pamphlets, historical ads/articles, and a huge collection of links, visit Michael O'Neal's website:

Thanks,
