When most people think of home in South Carolina they think of Charleston-style houses with big front porches, traditional beach cottages, or grand colonial estate homes. Admittedly, modern residential architecture is still fairly uncommon in the Palmetto State -- you really have to look hard -- but it is a growing trend. I hope this forum, through the posting of helpful resources and productive discussion, will be a catalyst the making of more modern homes in SC.
Welcome!

I moved to Spartanburg, SC about 5 months ago. A modernist mecca its not, but there are many homes here with modernist lines. The historic neighborhoods are numerous here. There are mainly mixes of post war ear american ranchers, bungalows, and colonials. I have come across 4 MCMs on the south side. There may be more dropped in a neighborhood that I haven't been in yet. The town has many MCM office complexes and buildings though. The other day I was passing by a laundry mat that behind it I saw a pile of 5 Eames bucket chair benches (graphite blue) that had been left to the elements. Go figure. I bought a 1941 a brick rancher with excellent modern lines. I am in the process of gutting and remolding now (http://www.385forestave.com) the whole project should take 1 year to complete. Anyway there are modernist homes in the upstate it just that it takes an eye to find them. I have been taking pictures of homes and buildings since I moved here and will be adding them to my website for house.

Here's a modern home being constructed by Celtic Works builders in Columbia. It's under construction in the Eau Claire neighborhood of North Columbia.

Would love to see more modern residential projects like this spring up.

In building one's home, it is important to have professionals to help you with the designs and the construction itself. This is a better way to ensure that everything will be perfect in the end. Even putting up additional structures such as outdoor living spaces will usually have need of expertise such as what http://www.eckhoffconstruction.com provides.
