PreFab / Modern in York Co. SC ?

Posted by Rich G at December 23. 2006

Hello I am new to the board and to the area. Can anyone fill me in on the exact definition of modernist ? Can modular prefab be considered modern or is it the exact design that defines "modern". Personally I think of modern as the construction and or design, some may differ.

We have finally sold one of 3 homes on the East Coast of Florida, well at least it is under contract for closing on the 21st of January. We are renting now what I think is a prefab, I need to look in the attic a bit more to decide and we are somewhat pleased considering it is a modest home. We are looking to do 1 of 2 things, either purchase 20 acres or more and build an all out home or purchase 5 or so acres closer to Rock Hill/Charlotte and a bit more modest home and then purchase 15 acres in Chester county for recreation (ATV/Shooting/Possible Hunting) and build a barn with apartment or small log cottage for the weekends. The land search for 20+ acres in a suitable place in this county for my wife's commute and my son's school appears to be futile. I do not have many requirements since I work on the road and this entire area is considered my "office" since I work out of the home.

My elderly mother is staying with us for the holidays and it's at best difficult in this 3/2 with most of our things in boxes. Now that her home is sold I need to drive her home to get the house packed, closing completed and the visit will become a move in a couple of weeks. A RAPID BUILD OF OUR HOME IS ALMOST A NECESSITY!! This is why we started looking at modular builds from companys like www.superiorcustomhomes.com . The home we build will include a seperate pod (sounds great when we speak of modern doesn't it !) for her comprised of a 2/1.5 with kitchen and den.

I would love a modern designed home, belive me I am a tech geek, the more CAT5 run, the more intergration of electronics and PC control the better I would love a home of tomorow TODAY. Anyone in the area that can supply some suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have seen several of the HGTV shows last year about prefab and modern prefab but most of the shows covered the high end, custom designed (ie: time consuming) homes and from the looks of it here in Charlotte Metro it looks like traditional prefab modular, trailers, or conventional construction. Am I barking up the wrong tree here for my next home ?

Thanks,

Rich K4GPS

Have a look at this site:

http://www.fabprefab.com/fabfiles/fablisthome.htm

I don't know about all of them, but I do know that the Wee House, the LV/LVL, and Resolution 4 models are all available in your area. Good luck and keep us posted!
