A jump to Fresno...

Posted by Miguel Santos at February 03. 2006

I haven't participated in the forum for awhile; a new job ended up relocating me from Sacramento to Fresno.
:zz:

Suprisingly, it is a very livable city with plenty of mid-century modern gems. Being the always-obsessed modernist, I ended up finding some of the local attractions:

Some of these need some work, but are defenitely worth it!

Keep checking the link.

I'll be including photos of modernist architecture in Fresno (it's surprisingly rich and unspoiled) and more pictures of my home remodel.

Thanks for the updates Miguel. As a fellow Central Valley modernist (Visalia) it is nice to be reminded that there are indeed some gems out there. I really love the windows in your place and I covet your fiberglass and wire chairs. I am sure it will look amazing once you are done.

Best,
Ethan

Fresno looks great - I'm surprised we have not heard about this before!

Ethan: You're absolutely right. There is a lot of great and unspoiled mid-century architecture in the valley (Fresno and Visalia both having great examples). Good to know that there are more people working on valuing and maintaining these wonderful structures. Thanks for the compliments on my house. The remodel/restoration has been a lot of work, but defenitely worth it!

Greg: it does, Greg! If you check this thread I have on Lottaliving on Fresno modern homes, you'll be even more surprised:

www.fresnomodern.com is another great site with frequently updated listings in the Fresno area.

We're contemplating moving to Fresno...how easy is it to find land that's 'affordable'?

Hi, John.

You might want to get in touch with Eldon Daetweiler of Fresnomodern.

Eldon is a local realtor specializing in mid-century architecture in the Fresno area; he will be able to help you finding that really nice lot at your budgeted target point:

I also moved because of my new job. It's a very stressful experience at first because I didn't make a plan and I don't know how to organize some factors needed to fix before moving.
