Prefab in a Mobile Home Park?

Posted by mimi toux at September 01. 2005

New Member here --

My husband and I just inherited a circa-1964 mobile home (badly in need of replacement) in a rent-controlled mobile home park in Santa Cruz. I loathe the new manufactured homes with their resin faux-wood-look siding, etc. Is it possible to put a prefab in a mobile home park? I'm worried about the foundation requirements and HUD codes.

Thanks for any help --

You could talk to the mobile home park about how they view non-HUD modular housing vs. HUD manufactured, but be aware that you WILL have to put a foundation in, and you'll basically still be renting land if that's the case.

I chatted briefly with both Michelle and Marshall about the possibility, but unfortunately it can't be done under current laws.

Of course I ranted about it in my blogs. I'd love to see a modernist take on a manufactured home project.
