We are going to do a green roof in the forest on Vashon Island. I have read and read lots about them, but found no one that actually does the design and the building of them.
The green roofs that are in Germany have been used and work well for 50 years. I do not know why we here in the US are not using these designs. I could not even find the designs.
I do not want to experiment with the roof of our home. Does anyone know of anyone who has done a green roof and is willing to share their process? Know of anyone who anyone who installs these? Any good protocols/designs/materials that have stood the test of time?

Go have a look at Colbond's website. They make the necessary drainage layer products. It isn't rocket science. It is basically a few additional layers over a membrane roof system.
from the membrane up:
root barrier (6 mil poly sheet will work)
drainage layer (Colbond and other companies make a 3D mat that allows whatever water that makes it thru the soil and down to the drainage layer to flow to scuppers or drains)
filter fabric (commonly incorporated into the drainage layer mat, keeps soil from entering drainage layer)
lightweight soil medium
plants
