Desperate - Help with Siding and Window schemes

Posted by M. Baumer at May 06. 2009

I am an intern architect here in Fairbanks, Alaska. My husband and I are building our home. I had the opportunity to design it. Last summer, we did the footers and foundation wall with ICFs. We are building the rest of the house using the Remote Wall. For those who do not know what that is, you can go to the Cold Climate Research Center and read up. But basically, you frame up, and then you have your sheathing, and VB and then you have 5-6 inches of rigid foam on the exterior. You use furring strips for siding. Anyway-I designed it, and then I had a friend at the firm I was at do my structural. It is now a year later, and we are getting ready to frame up. I changed firms, and decided I wanted the opinion of my new boss to look at it. She is done some really neat modern buildings around town. She said the plan was good overall. We made a couple of minor changes but in doing so, led me to change my roof. I have two sheds... and the swap in the "middle". Anyway...  I am now struggling with my siding and window schemes. I just don't feel like I have enough experience to make the right choice yet. This will be our house forever, and I want to be happy with it. Problem is, we are about a week away from framing, and I am desperate to finalize my windows. Of course, siding needs to play with my scheme as well. We have an existing structure we built... it's a garage with a small studio apt above so we can live on site while we build. We will rent it out later. IT is sided with corrugated metal and hardie.

My question...    having gotten this far in the design myself, is there anyone out there would would be willing to take a brief look at it, and help me come up with a modern style? I LOVE LOVE LOVE that one posted "infill NE Kerby @ Alberta ". I absolutely love that.
