It sure seems that going green costs you an arm and half a leg. Especially w/ recycled materials. Is it because there isn't the economies of scale yet for mfg or is it because it is catching on and green materials get a premium because they are 'cool'?
That's a good question. My theory is that it has been so extremely expensive and experimental up until lately, it was basically viewed as unattainable. Now, us "mainstream" consumers are seeing it on our availability horizon, and we want to make it happen. It is still generally more expensive upfront to go green. The fact that it is now attainable makes it that much more frustrating.
I know a lot of people who are building who wish they could afford to go more green. The suppliers often try to sell you on the back-end savings. But if you don't have enough for the front-end, there ain't gonna be no back end!
