Hello all:
I have read the post below on this subject, but was wondering if I could get some more insight from you.
I have an 1800 SF house in need of some attic ventilation. The house was built in 1939, with plank decking. We have soffit vents (small holes around perimeter), and gable end vents, but the attic is still extremely hot and causing the house to be humid as well. We live in Florida, so we were considering solar powered attic vents. We have recently re-insulated the attic.
The problem is from what I have been reading, they seem to be underpowered.
Do you have any suggestions or comments regarding solar vs. electrical powered vents? If so, is there a particular brand that is exceptional? Do you think we would be better off adding a ridge vent or both?
Thanks in advance!
Michelle

Especially if you're HVAC is in the attic, you want the attic inside the conditioned envelope. That means NO attic ventilation. The IRC is moving toward this design in most climates.
Retrofitting this type of attic detail is usually done by spraying foam against the underside of the roof decking.
