Greetings and good wishes to all New Orleans residents, whether you are already home or wanting to return. We all know what it means to miss New Orleans.
So much is in flux for our future and our city. As is our spirit though, our glass is half full (of whatever you're having) and we can choose to look upon this period as a time of unbelievable regrowth. I welcome all questions and ideas for bringing modernism to the Big Easy combined with a respectful nod to our architectural history.
With mutual support, we can resolve rumours, seek guidance, and hopefully rebuild our girl, New Orleans.

i had given up on visiting the geographic forums since it seemed to always be conversations about buying houses and buying furniture and buying, buying, buying (tedious topics when you're too poor to do the talking). imagine my surprise when i found posts about sustainable initiatives and projects in my home town! i'm (happily) shocked.
as a nola ex-pat it's great to see info from an outlet other than gambit or nola.com. reading about cabrini, the green project, and your own home in lakeview makes me feel in touch (even though my ties to home seem to be deteriorating daily). it's amazing how few people realize the extent of the destruction outside of the ninth ward- how neighborhoods like (yours) lakeview and (mine) mid city are just ghosts of their former selves. every story of someone renovating, rebuilding, moving back is an inspiration and every post you write is a confirmation that there's a community there worth being a part of.
i look forward to reading about your rebuilding and wish you the best of luck. i hope to see more people taking advantage of the site to help raise awareness of the reality/ challenges of living and rebuilding in and around new orleans.
thank you, julie!
