Looking for an Atomic Ranch in NC

I have traveled twice this year to find a home in NC Durham/Chapel Hill area, I am so frustrated on finding home! It feels almost next to impossible to find a mid century or a ranch for that matter! I have no problem with putting sweat equity into the home, but prices are just as high as LA San Diego~ CRAZY!!!! I love the Duke Forest region, but within hours I was outbided! I know homes I'm interested in are peppered though this area, does anyone know of other areas in Durham or surrounding areas that have mid century homes? I almost feel like giving up and staying where I am, I love my house but loathe my city!
Have you looked at Northgate Park? --Neighborhood between Duke, Club, and Roxboro. Not many ranches, but quite a few very simple houses that would be easy to modify/work on. My house, for example...
There are many such areas in Raleigh that would be what you are looking for if you are willing to look there. If so, I can recommend a few neighborhoods.

I have the same problem (almost). I am in Charlotte and want to purchase a house that will make me happy. Right now I live in a cookie cutter subdivision that makes me cringe everytime I dwell on it. I have seen only 2 or 3 mid century homes (ranch, atomic designs) and I just don't know how to track them down. Do have any advice at all for me? I don't mind a diamond in the rough either, I just need something modern.
thanks
