does anyone know what material they used for the deck? was the installation type (tight no gaps) for aesthetics? because won't the strips start buckling after time? thanks in advance.

The company that did the decks is Timber Tech, http://www.timbertech.com/ . If I remember correctly, there was a slight space (1/8 or so) between the boards, but because it's a composite wood/plastic material it does not warp. The deck was about $20/sf installed (in this case a 2,000 sf deck).
