Jason, which bamboo manufacturer do you usually use? I'd like to use Teragren because the finish looked the best but the best pricing I've found is just under $5/sf. Plyboo looked ok also and was cheaper but I'm not sure how they compare.
Tjhanks.

We use bamboo all the time on our projects. I like it. It is a good value for the money. As people have pointed out, there is cheap and good bamboo. If you are using the cheap stuff, you are wasting your time. Terragren make a good bamboo product as do some others. We pay $2.75 a square foot for quality bamboo.
We just finished a project using Teragren vertical grain caramelized bamboo and it looks amazing. This wasn't for flooring however. Our contractor used 4'x8' Teragren panels like lumber to build us a new bar, bookcase, stairs, and a storage unit, plus some other pieces. The bamboo is beautiful. We're going to finish the wood with a light poly coat just to protect it, but it almost doesn't even need it. The Teragren is very hard, and durable, the edges look so amazing when finished. Email me for pictures.

"In the interest of nondiscrimination I should point out that a 100-lb man wearing spike heels would do the same damage."
Yes, true, but the emotional damage he may suffer could be greater...
We installed bamboo flooring in our kitchen and living space (great room) 4 years ago. The type of flooring is a makeup of aprox 3/8 bamboo with a GREEN color MDF backing, and T&G.
Do not use this type, as in 4 years there are cracks through the bamboo lengthwise, chips at joints and scratches that are deep.
Bear in mind, we are older folks, retired, don't wear shoes in the house, have a small dog(beagle) with trimed claws. In other words, we were very easy on the floor, no heavy traffic, etc.
Perhaps those who bought solid bamboo flooring had better results,
Eric
