Not so modern flooring and fixtures

Posted by Chris G. at October 19. 2005

I am currently in the rough-in stage of a loft conversion. I've spent countless hours searching for industrial looking barn door hardware and various fixtures for my vintage space. I wanted to avoid the generic, galvanized 'almost industrial' look for the interior mechanical fixtures and flooring but frankly I was running out of options. Just as my patience started to wear out I see an ad in my local paper....historic 100yr old picture frame maker going out of business, landmark building scheduled to be leveled in spring, contents to be sold at auction...Score! I managed to buy all their old industrial fixtures/hardware, 30K sq.ft of vintage maple hardwood flooring, interior lighting, etc...

I plan to use a portion of this material for my personal loft/design showroom and sell the rest to help recoupe my labor expenses involved in salvaging the material. If anyone here is located remotely close to Chicago area and happens to be looking for real sliding door hardware, lighting, flooring, etc. please feel free to drop me an e-mail and I might have what you need.

Cheers,
Christof

Christof - are you working in the Chicago-area ?

Am still in early stages of planning/estimating but would be interested in finding out and networking with folks with experience with design/construction of add-on loft space(s) in old/antique Chicago buildings.

Am currently in an older loft in the West Loop area and wanted to increase/expand the lofted space.
