Veneer / Thin Brick Construction

I am renovating an old row house with old formstone on the front and back of the house. I am planning on removing it and possibly repointing or adding a new brick veneer. But I am interested to know if anyone has used thin brick to replace formstone. What manufactures are out there? And what may be some pros and cons? Will the product look like the real stuff?
I cannot speak to dealing with formstone (I assume it is thin cultured stone), but I am somewhat familiar with thin brick. Generally thin brick is actually just regular fired clay brick sliced thinner than full bed brick, about ½” to ¾” depending on manufacturer. It is applied over a 2 coat plaster system (scratch coat and brown coat). The back of the brick is just buttered with mortar and “stuck” on the brown coat. The joints are then mortared with a mortar bag (think a baker icing a cake).
