Deck Overhang Material

Posted by Deb Green at February 05. 2006

I am getting rid of the heavy wood/ashphalt shingle roof over my deck that blocks the natural light into my house. I want to replace it with a lightweight material, something translucent with light shade value and UV protection, but which won't block light into the house. The design of the overhang would be similar to the photo image on the last back page of the Feb/March 2006 Dwell issue (but with less structure and slats), and I'm hoping to find a material that can be easily placed on top. The overhang will be approximately 10'x 16'. We live in the foothills of the Rockies near Calgary, Canada, so winter storms and Chinook winds are a factor. Anyone know of anything that might work?
