Aluminum Clad standard windows?

Posted by Mark C at April 20. 2006

I wish I had the budget to do store front windows but... We are now looking at residential windows in particular Jeldwen Nordco, they fit the budget and sizes we want to use but their choice in exterior colors are very limited and don't really go with the colors we are think for the exterior of the house

I found Loewen and Marvin who both do a clear aluminum cladding but they are both roughly 10-20% more expensive which makes them a stretch for my home. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the look of Storefronts but with a Jeldwen Nordco price point?

You can try Weathersheild - they also do an anodized aluminum clad, but I know they will be expensive too. I've thought this through before and I think the least expensive way is to do a painted finish on the aluminum in a custom color, and then pick a silver color paint. Weathersheild and Pella will both do custom colors. I think Marvin will as well, but I am not sure about Norco (I believe that is the correct spelling). Check their web site:

It seems that their windows are a good value for aluminum clad. They show six colors. The desert sand is closest to grey, but I'll bet it looks more tan in person.

Norco

We specified Norco for our new house which is now under construction. Yes, the color choices were limited. We wanted a black exterior finish, but coundn't get it from Jeld Wen and the cost to get black from Pella was, as you said, about 20% more at least. So we went with the Norco Chestnut Bronze (which resembles the bronze storefront color in many commercial buildings) - almost black and it's even a little warmer and has more depth than a flat black. I don't think they do custom colors, though. I didn't think the taupe color was too bad, but then the only one left is white - augh.

They are showing six standard colors on their site. The white, dark brown, and tan (sand) are the usual suspects; but they also have a dark bricky red, a pale off white, and a dark green. Its funny - these are the 6 colors weathersheild used to offer before they opened up to custom colors. When we did our office we used the off white and dark red.
