Durability of Acrylite acrylic panels??

Posted by M E B at June 22. 2008

My wife and I are trying to decide on a type of architectural panel to use in a remodel in our home.  We're looking to use these panels to enclose a new stairway and balustrade.  We're also going to use the panels in a sliding room divider screen thing.  Anyway, we've looked at 3-Form and Lumicor panels, but they are just out of our price range.  We're also looking at frosted tempered glass.  But, we're the most excited about Acrylite acrylic panels.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with these panels in their home? We're looking at 3/8" thick panels in one of their frosted looks.  We really like their "Crystal Ice" and "Satin Ice" frosted panels.  What I am most concerned about is the durability, scratch resistance, and smudge resistance of the panels.  Any input that could be provided would be really appreciated.

I used green glass satin ice for loft railing infill and has held up good.  Not much traffic like a stairwell nor do I have kids so have no smudges.  I don't think it'd be a problem cleaning them if you do get some.   I'm sure anything fairly sharp would leave a scratch.  I think I used 1/4 and it needs to be fastened continuously with angle or channel to help firm it up.  I'd go with the 3/8.
