3-Form Struttura

Posted by Scott Mason at January 13. 2007

Architects have suggested 3-Form Struttura for
adding transparency to house project now
in development.

Planning to use the stuff as stair treads and for
some transparent sections of floor and deck.

Anybody have experience with Struttura and an
idea of the cost per sheet?

I think that is the same stuff I was hoping to use as stair treads.  but at $1200 per sheet I quickly rearranged my brain.

Oh dear, that's a bit pricey.

However, come to think of it. Last time I did the breakdown on stock glass stair treads it came to about $500 apiece, so at that price Struttura would seem "affordable."

I was looking into this stuff for floor panels in a house I designed (because glass was so expensive), but the distributor said they suggest structural support every three feet. You might want to check on this if you're using it for stair treads, cause you don't much deflection under normal use. You can imagine what will happen to a tread that deflects a half inch normally when a 250 pound mover is carrying a 300 pound dresser up them.

My architect says I need to put these treads in trays, I dunno,

maybe welded up out of angle iron, etc.
