Modern Base Boards & Trim - need pics

Posted by Kathy at February 15. 2007

Hi All

I'm looking for some modern looking base boards and trim, they will be made from wood.  Does anyone have any pictures or websites that have pictures of modern trim/base boards?  I need some pics to show to my trim man and so far I've not had any luck finding much in the way of modern looking trim.  I'm also open to the Craftsman look as long as it's not too busy.

Thanks!

In the house I am building, I will be using painted mdf, cut in 6" strips, underneath a 1/4" reveal beneath the drywall. Minimal as it could be. Many modern houses don't even use a base board, as they find a way to finish the wall all the way down to the floor. If you are fitting this baseboard to an existing wall, I would suggest a simple 1x4 of any wood species you choose, and let your trim man cut a 45 degree bevel at the top, leaving a 1/4" at the "back" of the bevel. That would also be a Craftsman type of approach. Both approaches are interested in simplicity more than ornament. The great thing about that is that simple sometimes costs less. As far as pics, any Dwell or Metropolitan Home will have tons of pics of houses with minimal baseboards. That's where I got most of my ideas... -R.

I'll be using "L" metal or "J" metal, mud and tape... -R.

Readily available at any lumberyard or big box store. The "L" and "J" refers to the profile of the metal...

Check out the aluminum products made by Fry Reglet.

http://www.fryreglet.com/details-reveals.htm

They make an aluminum base reveal that requires no baseboard which looks really clean.  It basically gives you a 2"-6" reveal option.  It allows a finish edge to tape your drywall too.  Below the drywall is 2"-6" of aluminum available in a bunch of colors.  I've seen this used in art galleries and it looks great.  Jed Stamen
