Cedar Plank Siding Replacement-Hardie Vertical?

Hi, I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has replaced cedar siding with hardie vertical siding and what the reult was?  OR if anyone had great results with another non-wood product.  Our property backs up to a natural area/state park and the woodpeckers are just too much to fight with anymore.  House was built in 1977 to give you an idea of architecture. My photos are too large to post here right now...thanks for any input!!
