Ceder siding finishing question -- how to finish the corners?

We are using horizontal lap cedar siding on about a 1/3 of our exterior. The wood will be about 5" high slats. My question is how to finish the corners.  We love the look of mitering the boards so that corners butt up to a clean finish, but we're concerned about how this will weather over time. We don't care for the look of having finished corners with a vertical piece of wood. We've thought about using reglets, perhaps in clear anodized, like our windows, but are uncertain about how the contrast in materials will look over time.  Please advise...

We bolted on a metal strip for our corner.  I love the look of the mitered corners, but this way were able to weather proof the corner.
