Has anyone ever frosted your own garage door?? I am looking at the prices of the door we want with clear glass verses frosted and the difference is UNREAL. Naturally I wanted the frosted look, as it seems that all my preferences seem to be the pricier option UNFORTUNATELY.
I know my impulse is to think, this is not something I would want to risk screwing up. So that's why I want to get some input before I waste my time thinking about it anymore.
It is a full glass door with grids (Clopay Avante) if anyone is wondering.
Jill,
I have a glass garage door on my house and elected to frost it myself after finding out a guy wanted $2,000 to frost it. Here is a picture.

When we built the house, I knew that we were doing glass door, so I had the electrician put flourescent lights above to backlight the glass.
You can buy the material to frost the glass at Home Depot or Lowe's. Buy lot of their soap/water solution because you will need it! The company that sells the product also has how-to videos online. Forgot the URL but it is on the box. Also make sure the glass is really clean.
FYI - if you are frosting interior doors or windows inside your house, it is worth have a professional door it. They do a really good job but if you are doing your garage door - do it yourself.
Good luck!
Jason, that is wonderful news! There's a slight chance now that we won't have to go that route at all, but if we do I'm glad to see it can come out looking good. Your's looks great.
And oh my god, your house! gotta say, it makes me not want to even bother building mine. LOVE THE EXTERIOR.
