rain screen

Posted by brano rataj at August 13. 2008

i know there have been some discussions about this topic but i was thinking to create thread that would just deal with this system.  i am attaching pictures of house i am planing to build. i am planing to use rainscreen. from other conversations on this forum and what i saw on the web, most people use only tiny gaps between siding materials, like 1/4" or 1/5". also on vaporshield website they claim that maximum open joint width is 3/8". i am planing to use 1" or maybe 2" open joint. i was wandering if that is even possible. as linear siding i will use either wood or hardi trims, also if wood is used what would be suitable wood that doesnt cost fortune.

We at benchmark have done a few rain-screens here in SLC, UT and could assist with your design.

i have redesigned rainscreen on the house to suit vaporshield recomendation.  guess i could live with thinner reveal. hopefully i will discover a method to widen it before i start to build. i still would like to use real wood for part of siding, but i am not quite sure how it is going to look in combination with hardi.
