Glass tile or other options for fireplace

Posted by Sandy Brooks at February 18. 2008

We currently have an ugly faux travertine tile fireplace surrounded by what looks to be door molding and a mantle that isn't as wide as it should be.  So, I'm looking to put in new tile, take off the ugly molding and get a new mantle.  My husband will probably make the mantle (he's handy) out of a nice piece of wood, but I don't know which tile to use.  Was thinking of doing glass tile, but haven't seen any examples of it used on a fireplace, so I'm not sure if it would look weird. Can anyone direct me to some example of this or other options for tile on a fireplace?

Honestly we have the same problem. I little search at google.com and Ebay helps me looking for my fireplace door. You can use this link for looking some unique fireplace screens or other related for the fireplace.

I too had an unattractive fireplace surround- I thought about it for quite some time and looked at a lot of books for inspiration.  I ended up just going to a local craft store and purchasing some small mirror tiles (varying in size from .5"sq to 3"sq) and made my own mosaic design around the fireplace.  It looks great- very shiny and modern and it was really inexpensive too!!  I hope this helps!  GOOD LUCK!!

If you would like some examples of glass tile fireplaces, you can search Google for the term "How to Build a Glass Tile Fireplace". You should be able to find instructions and samples of other designs. When you build your new fireplace, you might want to consider how it matches with the rest of your furniture. A glass tile fireplace would look great with a matching glass coffee table.

If you would like to look for some new living room furniture to match a glass tile fireplace, you can search for different living room furniture on Google.

Good luck with your new fireplace design. Post some pictures!
