Portland and points north? The great state of Maine begins here in Kittery and York County! Just because someone accidently named our Navy Base the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, don't confuse us with those traditional types across the river in New Hampshire.

Sorry bearch - not trying to redraw Stae lines here by any means. Let's see if we can revise the tag line.

Is that all we have? Or am I missing some other posts? I just started looking for a home in Maine, and I am a little scared! No, a lot scared. Am I going to have to build my own house?

I can't imagine my California-raised, 6 foot 4 husband trying to even enter the tiny rooms in Cape style houses.

What is scaring you bryce?

(Your husband would have almost 6 of clearance before hitting his head on the living room ceiling in my cape.)

Welcome to Maine, bryce. Where are you planning on relocating? You will not find modern architecture here to the extent that it is available in CA, but there are a great many things to recommend the state. I also relocated from elsewhere (Washington, DC) and often find myself remarking Wow, I live here!

Hey All
Just wanted to let you know that we are breaking ground on a modern home in Portland in hopefully a month. It took us about 7 months to get our building permit but we finally got it! I'll keep you posted when we get started.

[strong]Great news Erik.[/strong]
I encourage you to post a new topic specifically about your project to keep us up on the progress.
(I've heard about your projct in the community here. Thank you for hanging in there for 7 months.)

Please do Eric, I look forward to hearing how it goes. Where in Portland is the house going to be? I'm not too familiar with the city, even though I get up that way every now and then. When I do, I always ask myself why I don't visit more often. Then I remember that we have five kids!

Five Kids Whoa! We have one! Portland's a great place to bring the kids.
The House will be on lower Clark St. between Salem and Summer just into the West end. We have great views of the Fore River and the bridge to South Portland. The house lot is small so we are going up to maximize the view.
With all the new building happening in town, does anyone know if any of it will be modern? The only thing I can think of are the new loft condo's going in on Congress st? maybe...

Re: Welcome

There is a storefront under construction accross from 100 Commercial St that looks pretty current. Also there is a building on Congress St near Maine Med (also under construction) that looks promising. (Seems to be a parking structure being converted into offices?)

Hey Everyone
Well, We are finally going to break ground this week! I think I said this about 6 months ago but its really going to happen this time.
Info on the house:
It's designed by Carol Wilson
3 stories tall with a roof deck. We look out at the Fore River and the multi $$$ bridge.
18'x 52' ( so that we still have some green space left)

If anyone lives in South Portland when you go across the bridge to Portland you will be able to watch the progress.

In about 6 weeks you should be able to see the steel going up.

Once I figure out how to post photo's I can put up a digital image and a picture of the model. Also weekly photo's of the progress if anyone is interested.

Cheers
Erik

Erik how is the house coming, are you guys still moving fwd.  Bryan       judge1@roadrunner.com, 207-590-8000, if you ever consider selling I would buy it.

Re: Welcome

I'd arm wrestle you for it Bryan...as heavy as I'm getting, I lean into it and you're in trouble. Erik showed my wife and I around (we were on our way to Peaks Island for our aniversary) while it was still in construction about a year and a half ago, so it should be pretty much done? Carol Wilson's web page shows it close to being complete. It was very impressive and the view is spectacular!

I'm heading up that way for a couple of the Architalx lectures - anybody else going?
