There are a huge amount of good, and not so good quality l.v. lighting systems. Most of the middle of the road and higher end stuff can use either custom, adjustable ridgid, and aircraft cable in different lengths, and field cuttable. I would recomend:

Bruck is more "euro/sleek" and they have several different types of track systems. I used this manu. on many projects.
LBL is a little more "fun". The only have the one fusion rail 1 & 2 circuit, but they also have a huge amount of matching sconces.
I don't know how handy you are, but you could have the electrician install a j-box where the transformer will go, and you could put the erector set together.
