I'm trying to track down an alumunim frame w/ glass garage door in a one-piece swing-up style. They're easy enough to find in a sectional overhead style, but I'm looking for something that tilts up in one piece, like garage doors used to. I've seen it recently in a Sweet's catalog supplement, but can't for the life of me remember who the manufacturer is. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
how about horiz bifold:

here is hardware for a flat panel door - bring your own aluminum and glass:

Greg--WOW! to the Jonkman, especially with the 10 degree angle. Any specs on weather tightness? Angela and I would love something like that in our west wall facing the ocean for the Washington CM, but it would have to meet 80MPH wind driven water intrusion standards.
Still, a totally cool alternative to the Clopay roll-up (which is pretty cool itself!).

David - I've collected those links off this messageboard so kudos to the community!
I've priced several of these Al/glass rollups and I think the Clopay is the best value. Check for yourself. Find a local Clopay dealer - likely they won't even know that Clopay is pitching these to the resid market. Show them the web page and get a quote. The Bryce Parker people were very responsive and got me a quote right away as well.
Home Depot is a Clopay dealer. At least in my area. Greg, you're right..the guys at the millwork desk said huh? until I showed them the webpage. He called around and had a qoute for me in a day...sorry, can't remember the price and don't have my notes in front of me.
The Bryce Parker doors look fab! I would be tempted to keep the garage lights on all the time, just for the milky cool glow. But I can only imagine what one of those would go for.
Another possible source of commercial Clopay doors is http://www.steelbuilding.com . They actually have prices online. However, I suspect that the fully-glazed garage doors are special orders. Also, I am not sure whether they do opaque glass inserts. Personally, I do not want people to be able to peak into my business!
These doors are very cool, indeed. For any quotes received, please share, as there are many of us looking at these for residential applications.
Another door worth looking into is the Raynor AlumaView:

I got a quote for the Clopay Avante in aluminum finish with frosted glass from an authorized dealer here in Omaha.
The price, installed, was $1185 for a 16' x 7'...
That seemed reasonable to me, I think I will get one after we get settled into our new house,(I think my wife will want window coverings before a glass garage door:grin
I have no idea how that compares to regular garage door at 16' x 7' though...
I purchased a regular 16' x 7' garage door about five years ago for about $750 installed. It was a moderately high-end insulated door with a row of windows across the top.
So I think the price you were quoted is indeed reasonable.

If you want a better Clopay-style garage door for less money, you can have Overhead door make one the same style for about $1500-1800 cheaper! We are spec'ing one right now on a project near the Arboretum.
agbconstructionllc,
Are you located in portland? I remember a house at the street of dreams a few years ago which had frosted glass garage doors from overhead door company.. We called them, but no one returned our call.
I'd also like to know if you are portland. I would be happy to know a builder using this forum that is in the area.
bjork....
Is this the street of dreams home you are talking about?...

Yipes!
I just got a quote for a 16'2 x 7'7 door from Bryce Parker. For a basic glass door the total came to $5131 including $1000 shipping. Good grief!
A flat panel wood door is looking better and better...
I got quotes for two doors, a 16x7 and an 8x7
Arm R Lite was 18,500 delivered and installed
Clopay Avante was 4260 for both installed
Bryce Parker only quoted the 16x7 and it was 4400 w/o delivery or install
Again, I think the Clopay looks like a good value for this style door, but I've never had a client put one in yet so I've got no first hand experience.
Mod,
You are correct.. that was our favorite at the show... We saw those doors and decided then we needed them. Not to hijack the thread, but I am very close to remodding our house.. I am looking for local people who could help me to design my vision and a GC who has experience with affordable modern remod/additions. We are located in SW pdx.
Sometimes Best Value just means cheap! I have found that the cheaper priced products like the Clopay, always cost more in the end. I have owned a Clopay door a Bryce Parker - BP - Glass Garage Door, and the difference is like night day. The quality of the BP door is far superior in every aspect including quiet operation looks. I had (4) warrantee issues on my Clopay door in the first year and a half alone. (2) of which they made me pay a ridiculous amount of money to fix. The parts that kept breaking on the Clopay door were made from regular steel, where on the BP door I have now, are made of thicker stainless steel and have never given me any problems. The BP Door also had a better quality quieter electric operator. I liked that the BP door was factory direct so there was no middle-man like buying a Clopay door through a dealer. You always get what you pay for! Check out there website - www.GlassGarageDoors.com
Clopay makes steel, wood, and aluminum doors - it sounds like you had one of their residential steel garage doors? The aluminum and glass door in question here is a completely different product that Clopay recently started offering. Unless you had one of their commercial aluminum and glass units before I am not sure it is a fair comparison.
Also, I believe the Bryce Parker doors are aluminum and not stainless. All the same I would not be surprised if their product was better quality.
That is my point exactly. BP only manufactures aluminum frame glass garage doors compared to Clopay that makes different types of doors with the same cheap hardware. Maybe that's why my Clopay door failed? The stainless steel I was referring to are the hinges rollers on my new BP door. I think because they specialize in only that type of door, they do a much better job. My old Clopay door had noisy black rollers and hinges which failed. Also, I noticed that the Clopay door was sagging just before I sold my last house. I don't know if it had been happening over time, or if was always like that.
Comparisons can and should be made when buying any product. Regardless, I wish I had the BP door comparison page before I purchased my first door. It would have really cleared things up for me. - http://www.glassgaragedoors.com/compare.htm
I hope my comments help others choose wisely, as it can be costly when you don't make the right decision the first time.

Rob - your comments are most helpful if you can be clear about what you are posting. You still have not clarified if your old clopay door was aluminum and glass or if it was a steel door. If it was aluminum and glass then its likely it was not the same product they are marketing now for residences which makes your comparison less meaningful. I did not say you should not compare, I just said you may not be making a fair comparison. BPs comparison page is fine, but of course they have not named a specific product for the other.
I thought it was obvious we were talking about Aluminum All Glass Garage Doors. My old Clopay was a model 901 - Aluminum Full View Door, which I was told by Clopay this morning (8-30-05), is the exact same door they are now calling the Avante for residential use, just with less options. Unfortunately for the general public and people like myself, a name change does not make for a better product. It is the same lesser quality product with a new name for marketing purposes. If you don't believe me, call Clopay yourself, wait on hold for over one hour, talk to a few people who did not know anything about their own product, to arrive at the same conclusion.
I am convinced now more than ever, that in comparison, the Bryce Parker model BP-450HD was the best choice in quality!
You should see both comparison pages for yourself. It is obvious!

We have spec'd BP doors on one job so far- The quality is outrageously good and they are really flexible in terms of design, glazing and options. They delivered what they promised and on schedule.
I have no doubt their product will last a long time and every intention of using them again.
Have you all ready checked Sweet's on line? You might also look in Thomas Register.
If I see it, I will pass it on.

I don't know how y'all are getting your Clopay Avante doors so cheaply because the price quotes I am getting are ridiculous. I have gotten a couple of quotes- from online and from a local installer, and the price for a 16' x 7' door was between $4200 to $4600 including an electric hoist.
I think I have found a somewhat less expensive option by CHI:
The local installer quoted me about $3200 for a 16' x 8' door that includes installation and hoist. It's expensive, but it's a bit more reasonable... Does anyone have any experience with this door?
><br>
After truly outrageous bids from Clopay and Bryce Parker, I've settled on an Overhead Door. Like CHI, it has a more industrial look (compared to the more refined options I mentioned above), but it's full light (including the bottom panel). My local dealer quoted around $2300 with installation for clear glass (plus $300-$400 for the opener, and a $600 upgrade for frosted glass).
Wow........., some people just don't get it! There is a BIG difference in quality here. I guess that why some people drive a Kia and others a BMW or Mercedez Benz. If you have to keep paying for repair after repair like I did, where is the savings? With this type of door it's pay now or pay later. Bottom line..............If you want a Glass Garage Door that keeps breaking down, go ahead and buy the Clopay or Overhead brand. I did, and I ended up paying more. If you want the best, which sometimes costs a little more, buy the BP-Bryce Parker Door. I guess only people who have had both doors like I have can truly understand the differences. I posted my remarks to help people make a better decision, but it seems like some people are like Pavlov's dog, programed to a certain response. In this case, buy cheap......... get cheap! Some people just can't see the forest through the trees. Good Luck! I bought a BP- Glass Garage Door and don't need any!

Rob, not everybody can afford a bmw.
Just a spot of advice since you feel nobody is following your advice. As of this writing you have only made 4 posts on LiveModern, and all are on the topic of glass aluminum garage doors where you pitch for BP. This makes it hard to build credibility. Not a knock, just some advice and encouragement to participate more fully in the community. People are suspicious on the internet.
Everyone: As far as other manufacturers, fwiw we are going to be installing a non-BP glass and aluminum door in the Maryland 6030 House next month. I'll be glad to report back on brand and performance later on. It will be great if others buying doors do the same as Rob has. Thanks.
