Poured Rubber Floors

Posted by Ai-Ling Lee at December 09. 2004

Hi,
I have seen in numerous European modern magazines (like LivingEtc), where people use Poured Rubber Floors for their interiors. I tried searching on google, but no luck. Does any of you have any idea where I can get them? I'm located in Los Angeles. Seems like you can have a wide variety of colors, and can coat it with a clear coat if you like. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I love the sound of this, and I spent a little while trying to find some stuff. All I cam e up with was this. I would love to see some pics of a rubber floor installed in a modern contemporary home. Let us know if you find anything else out.

In high school, our gym was a poured rubber floor. I've played other similar basketball courts, but never personally seen it in a house. Most of the resources I've seen on the web are for athletic surfaces or playgrounds.

Thanks guys, I've been searching on the web, and all I came across are gym stuff too. I've not seen it in person yet, but those in the magazine pictures looks so great (minimal), it almost sounds like it's cheaper than wood, and look better than linoleum. I asked my architects + general contractor too (currently designing a home), but they have no idea either. The contractor did remember using some kind of poured rubber floor at those horse stall a few years ago, and it's very tough. I'm still hoping someone in this forum knows something about it. I'll see if I can scan a picture from the magazine, and I'll post it.

Anything on fire safety? Insurance company's point of view?
Anything on cork?

A few more links:

This company claims to have wet pour rubber: http://www.epic-golf.co.uk/eges.htm

This company advertises a poured rubber floor that has recycled content: http://www.gotham-ps.com/sf-pour.htm

I hope this helps,

Nightmare.

My wife had poured rubber floors installed in the lobby of their architecture firm in Los Angeles. It was a new manufacturer and they flew out from France for the install. Two guys oversaw a local crew. The floor was designed to have little metal shavings in it to add interest...this part worked fine but - the floor surface was highly inconsistent. Had to be redone several times. It was a maintenance nightmare. The edge conditions were difficult to resolve etc..

Novel idea though. Maybe the technology has advanced in the past few years, but part of the issue is that there isn't an American company that can install it correctly. Some of the equipment simply isn't available here.

You're in L.A.. Go see it in the lobby of Cannon Design in Century City.

Peter
