I recently discovered HOUSES magazine out of Australia. I must say it's a lot like dwell, but better. Less ads, more profiles, more variety, and blueprints(!).
Alas, it's a $100 per year subscription (which, oddly, is $40 more than if you purchase it at the newstand).
Anyways, check it out if you see it next time at the newstand.
Anyone else come across any must-read publications as of late?
Oh, and for your MN forum folk...be sure to check out the new Architecture Minnesota magazine that was redesigned this spring.
Love it too, but I can not escape the feeling that all these really nice modern homes are also really expensive. Having said that, Australia does appear to have a thriving, Modernist-inspired, residential building scene that rivals that of Europe.
Living ETC. out of Great Britian is one of my favorites. Nice mix of 100 year old plus buildings done in a modern vernacular. Very Terence Conran.
I do agree i just bought my 2 issue of Houses, Great magazine, simple and straight to the point, no added fluff....do wish dwell had the same. About modern being affordable, this months House Issue has a house that was done for $165,000 real simple structure that provided both shelter and comfort.
I also have come across InnovativeHouse...real good Magazine on Sustainable Design using smart technology...has good articles and projects, they have a website innovativehomemagazine.com
I also love Living Etc. from the UK- I had a heck of a time finding it anymore as Lowes seemed to not carry it and the UK site would not offer an overseas subscription to the US. So, if anyone loves this but cannot find it, your last resort is Amazon.com - type it in and it will cost you about $140 to get it to you from over there. I sprung for it I loved it and missed it so much!
