I just tiled my kitchen in 1 mosaic glass tile that I bought from hakatai. The quality was really good, and, as far as I can tell, they are about 1/2 the price of most places, for this type of tile. Here's the only pic I've got of the tile right now. Keep in mind, there is no grout yet in this picture. I'll post some more pictures once I find my camera charger :).

Similar to the above glass mosaics is Monterey Ceramic and Tile
http://www.montereyceramictile.com/catalog/mosaicblends/index.htm

For kitchen and bath tiles we got Atlas Concorde 18x18 tiles
http://www.atlasconcorde.com/viewnode.do?pagine_name=8368410011797957376+style03x0p1

I have only seen the Cementi and Lounge series so far in my shopping. We got the Cementi since it looks like concrete. We like that they are designed to have a seamless look by being able to be installed very close to each other. and using color matched grout. The store we got them from had them for $4.99SF but gave us a nice discount since we were paying cash.

thanks for the suggestions these places look great. we are looking for white subway tile for the bathroom and hexagons for the floor so let me know if you know of places that sell that style too. thanks!

We just ordered a 2 x 4 brickjoint tile in white from Daltile, and they have 2 square floor tiles or hex. I think the tile is pretty good, not so gorgeous as the handmade stuff, but the 1 x 3 Pratt and Larson I was looking at was $54/sf and Daltile is $13. The PL was heavenly, but not worth a year's worth of college at a state university!

P.S. I think Lowe's might have good tile that you can check out in catalogs and order...they have a pretty robust ordering business and my sister got her 3x6 subway tile there...

Does anyone know of a place to get cheap charcoal smooth river rock tiles, preferably mounted on mesh?

Re: TILE

The cheapest I've found for pebble tile is:

http://www.naturalstoneoutlet.com/petimoco.html

A few weeks back they had charcoal river rock on clearance for $6 /sf but it is now available for $11.

Finally got a charger for my camera. Here's a better picture of the tile we put up in our kitchen. Not too bad for less than $9/sqft.

I think it's worth it to just head to a craft store and buy river rocks for $2 per bag and lay them one at a time. It won't take that much longer and it's easier to get a more natural installation, as well as costing probably about $3 a square ft.

I looked at creating my own tiles from store bought river rock at one point. Michaels has bags of river rocks for fairly cheap, but very few of them are flat, and the thickness is not very uniform. I gave up on that process. How about these tiles:

These are only $5.50/sqft, and they look pretty good to me. I found these at natural stone outlet. They are on sale from $11.00/sqft, so who knows how long they will be around at this price. Not sure if they are mesh backed tho. They also have some neat looking vertical rock tiles:

I'm planning on using the stones from natural tile outlet in my bathroom. looks like a great product for the money.

Kirk, that is real sharp! I am considering glass mosaic tile for a shower in my remodel.

jjasper,

hmmm, seems like we live in the same lil town. I got real excited about the Atlas Concorde tiles you used -- would you mind sharing the places that carry them? I did click around a while on google, google local and such but had not any luck. didn't call anywhere yet, thought I'd ask you first. did you put them on the walls and floors?

Re: TILE

We got them in Pasadena at Felikian's on the corner of Rosemead Blvd, and Foothill Blvd. We also saw them at a tile shop on Las Tunas in between San Gabriel and Rosemead, but they were more expensive there.

Thanks jjasper! Please disregard the private message I just sent to you: your last post didn't show up when I looked earlier for some reason.

In my tile travels today I stopped at Lino city and found something that might work in one of our bathrooms. Its called fritztile and is a resin based mosaic with 70% recycled content no VOC's. http://fritztile.com/grn800/index.htm# Not exactly tile but it will act like tile.
