Modern typeface/Font

Posted by Adam Curtis at June 09. 2006
I am having some aluminum plate waterjet cut for my house numbers. Does anyone know of a font that has a clearly modern look? My waterjet cutting source has 10s of thousands on file but I need somthing to look for. The numbers are 2037 they will be about 10 high and welded to a bracket and back lit with a solar light.

Some of my favorite modern fonts:

Futura (love its proportions)
Gill Sans (very handsome - better for paragraphs of text than display)
Franklin Gothic (like a cooler helvetica)
Copperplate Gothic (very horizontal)
Optima (swells towards the end of strokes, almost like a serif)
Avant Garde (very geometric)

Skia
VAG Rounded (Volkswagen Auto Gruppe-circa 1940's)

Look at House Industries site as well for a bunch of interesting fonts.

When you select a font, be sure the company shows you the font in its 10" iteration, and as a sting (2037). Some fonts look great when they are on a page in a sample book, but they can look a lot different when they are large, especially when kerning is ignored.

Thought I would chime in with my pick (and my first post). Century Gothic - it's real clean with sharp lines. I'll attach a pic with your numbers.

Thanks everyone for the ideas, I like the Futura, backtalk sans is nice and I like the one that shofner posted above. Of cource my waterjet guy has none of the fonts I requested.
I will let you know the outcome.

><br>

I like ARCHITEXT, I used it for the #s on my mailbox...(and the logo for my business)

(sorry for the self promotion...but it was the fastest place I could find an example of the font to show you!)

If you search the free font sites you can see examples of the numbers, I tried to link directly to a picture of the #s, but it did not work...

Good luck!
