Andersen Door

Hello everyone,

I'm not sure how much of a question this ism maybe its a harang. We have a new house, we didn't build it but we were the first to live in it and it's a great vertically modern house. We wanted to replace our front door which has no glass with one with full glass--to be specific, an Andersen 400 series, Frenchwood--very simple, with privacy glass. The door is big--the door, without any framing, the door itself--is 3' x 8'--we assumed custom but since everything else in the house is an Andersen product -- all the windows and the backdoor, that this is what should happen here. No brainer. So we figured we would go to the local Home Depot who also has a guy to install it. So, the guy comes out to measure the door, Home Depot orders it, it arrives and it's 3" too short and 3" too narrow. So, you and I know, that someone didn't account for the frameing, the whole prehung idea. It also arrived with some minor damage--which I probably would have lived with if it had been the right size. The installer said, I could put it in and give you wider caseings--3" more on the top and 1 1/2" on each side--which we declined to do. This has been going on since June. Home Depot can't seem to find out from Andersen if they can make us a custom door. Can they? Does anyone know? I would think, that Andersen, this big company could mangage a custom door even if it is 8' tall. Is this a Home Depot problem? They finally came today to take the item out of my kitchen where it's been sitting for the last month. I would appreciate words of wisdom to those of you who have been through this kind of thing. I am almost ready to cut my losses but I'm not sure if this is Andersen and I should go elsewhere for another door or this is Home Depot--or a unfortunate combination of the weaknesses of both. I thought I would let you guys weigh in on this--.
