Aluminum Cabinet Frame

Posted by Greg Howe at December 01. 2005

I am in desparate need for an aluminum frame for a glass cabinet door. Hafele has a bunch but not quite what I am looking for. My goal is to find something that has a very narrow profile when the cabinet is viewed from the front. I want to see more glass and much less frame. The thinnest one from Hafele is 7/8 wide. I was hoping to find something closer to 1/4. This is a look seen in cabinets from Boffi and Poggenpohl but I am not interested in their pricing. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you are resourceful and a DIYer try using an extruded aluminum picture frame. The are available online and you can put together your doors pretty cheap. The hardest part is figuring out your hinges.

Have you looked at maplecraftusa? Profile 2 might be what you're looking for.

European Concealed hinges are available that mount directly to the 1/4 glass via a 26mm hole with a cover cap. That way you don't need a frame at all or you can attach a much lighter weight frame of aluminum or stainless Steel U channel to the edges of the glass without it having to support anything but its own weight.

Don't go with the cheapest glass supplier though. If these are upper kitchen cabinet doors they should be $40 with ground edges, $60 with polished edges and $10 to $20 per hole at that size.

Maplecraftusa has exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for the tip.
