Modern Art from DNA

Posted by Angelo Sanchez at July 24. 2005

I was in Ottawa, Canada this weekend and I came accross some facinating art at an exhibit. They create custom modern art from DNA. I am thinking about buying an art piece after seeing the art in person. I'd like to know if anyone else has heard of this company www.dna11.com?

I also came across a small article about the art on my favorite blog www.dna11.com?

I think it's akin to hanging up a photo of your xrays when you break you arm. Interesting, but not quite 'art'. ;o)

Sure it's art! At work here, they bring in kids to learn about biotechnology through our science education program. The kids get to spool their own DNA, then capture it in a small glass vessel, put a cool cap on it, thread a cord through that cool cap on top, and wear it as jewelry. I volunteer in the program and always see kids of all ages walking around proud of their necklaces. It's a toss up which they like more, the lab tours or the DNA necklaces they get to make.
