We're in search of modern loft beds for our 3 year old boy/girl twins who have to share a bedroom in a manhattan apartment with 8 foot ceilings. Of course we're looking at IKEA, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of anything else that would look great in a home leaning more and more towards clean, modern design.
As far as space goes, the attached photo shows a great bed that does it all. Price is decent too. Maybe someone has an idea about how we can make this look a little more modern without sacrificing structural integrity? I'm pretty sure it's clear coated solid birch.
Thanks!
Here's one that's pretty cool, although definitely in the pricey range.

I like this one from Room and Board. They have other cool stuff for kids too.

Okay, then I am confused by what they are looking for. They mentioned 2 kids, so I am assuming they need 2 sleeping areas???
Room and Board does have this steel loft bed and you can also get the platform bed that goes underneath (twin or full) for more sleeping space). It's one solid piece of steel.

To address the confusion above, we're going to buy two of whatever we find. One for each child. That way when they get older we can split the room for privacy and they'll each retain space for bed/dresser/desk. If we split bunks we'll run out of floor space.
I know it's a stock answer, but IKEA seems to have the most loft beds to choose from. At least a half dozen lofts and another half dozen bunks.
So after days of surfing the web I finally found it. And I can't afford it. Well, not two of them. But the modern loft bed does seem to exist. In case the link doesn't work, it's called the Fillmore at www.ducducnyc.com. sigh

Very nice indeed. ducduc makes nice looking stuff. I bet you could show that to a finish carpenter or cabinet maker and have one made for half the price. Especially if you do the painting. Worth a try anyway.
I think you could take the ikea lofts and mod them up a bit. Paint over the birch, and/or screw some white polypropelene behind the slats, and remove or change the hardware. Replace that country chair with something a little cooler (Ikea's tractor seat chair comes to mind), and I'm sure those lofts would look a lot better.
