sheets and bedding ideasPosted by Christel Kelsey at March 13. 2005
Any ideas on where to find high quality bedding materials? I have tried dwellshop.com, but I don't love any of them.

How high end are you wanting to go? Denish Shmidt quilts are beautiful. but pricey.
As far as sheets go, I keep an eye out for high threadcount sheets in solid colors at overstock.com and pick them up there for decent prices. I find it totally ridiculous when catalogs want you to pay so much for 200-thread-count sheets.
What kind of style are you looking for?

Wow, the quilts are amazing. We are not looking for quite that high end, though! Thanks for the overstock.com idea - I got some nice white sheets - I would love to find a beautiful teal duvet cover, maybe with a geometric print? Any ideas?

Found a nice place today through apartment therapy called Variegated. Really nice stuff. You can download a price list. The linen duvet covers run from $350 for a twin to $475 for a king. So ... procey, but pretty nice.

High quality. My goal was to find something more modern. Crate and Barrel came out with some Marimeko sheets--not a high thread count (200 or so) but the Kivet-was colorful and fun--and if you keep an eye out on their online outlet--they do go on sale for reasonable amounts of money. There's also a manufacturer called AREA that makes some good sheets--the design is good and the thread count is still only 200 percale pure finish. Garnet Hill carries one but there are other companies too.
Now, anyone seen some good bedspreads? I like my duvet but summer is coming.

I absolutely love the Variegated stuff and I could almost justify spending 500$ on such a gorgeous duvet cover (gasp!) - but you have to dryclean them. Or hand wash. Hmmm. That's a bummer. I like everything to be wash-n-wear.

Deb - have you seen the bedspreads at foldbedding.com?

If the Denyse Schmidt quilts are a little too expensive (as they were for us), Crate and Barrel has a Schmitt-designed quilt for considerably less than even Schmidt's own low-end line. We just ordered a set last night for our new bed.

The Denyse Schmidt quilt are stunning--and the Crate and Barrel version is looking pretty good plus they have sheet sets. There are some great ideas here. Thanks.

Maine Cottage is also retailing Schmidt's designs--and has a little more selection--I like them a lot.
Thanks to everyone who has responded so favorably about our work since it was posted on apartment therapy. Here's a bit more background about our products. All of our products are made in the US either by us in our studio, or in small production houses in NYC. We hand silkscreen all of our prints in our studio. We like to keep as much manufacturing in the US as possible, this results in a higher priced item.
Our linen is a top weight linen that softens and mellows beautifully with age. We suggest either dry cleaning, or machine washing in cold water in the gentle cycle. Hang to dry if possible, or dry till slightly still damp on low heat. Iron if you want it crisp. We have pets, and wash our own duvets alot.
The cotton line is 100% spun Egyptian cotton shirting. It is milled for the garment industry, runs around 220 thread count, and is super soft. These duvets can be either dry cleaned, or washed as the linen.
We understand that our products may be a special purchase for consumers, our work is well made with attention to detail, and intended to last for a very long time.
By the way, it is sometimes difficult to tell, but the stripes on our linen duvets and pillows are not printed, they are all pieced together. There are 13 different stripes in the bottom front panel of a full/queen duvet plus the top panel, and two on the back. Pillows and duvets close with invisible zippers.
The folks at fold bedding are friends and make a really great line.
As for sheets, we love AREA.

There are a lot of websites offer bedding at affordable prices. But today, a bedding purchase is based on analyzing the product's attributes and deciding how these mesh along with your needs. Here are some important things to think about when choosing fine linens:
