We have glass in our current doors - and we hate the lack of privacy. You can't choose to ignore unwanted solicitors. I had the same problem in a previous house. We just ordered solid doors today.

For the truly paranoid, get a video intercom rather than a peephole. A burglar with a $10 lens can reverse a peephole to see inside your house quite clearly.

I also ordered an Aiphone video intercom in stainless steel that would suit modern exteriors.
