Zebrawood Kitchen Cabinets: A Stylish Choice that is Environmentally Responsible

Posted by James Aitchison at January 24. 2010

Known for its beautiful contrasting grain colors, zebrawood is sleek,
sophisticated, and thoroughly modern. It has been popularized in the US in many
fashions including interior design, handmade jewelry, guitars, and ultra
high-end applications such as Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac automobiles.

Natural Zebrawood: Exotic, Beautiful; Yet, an Endangered Species

Reminding you of the striping on a zebra, the name Zebrawood generally
refers to the wood species of Microberlinia, which is also known as Zebrano,
and grows in Central Africa. Unfortunately for most consumers, due to its high
demand combined with its rarity, it has become very expensive. Additionally,
because of its massive deforestation, many surveys have listed zebrawood as an
endangered species and conservation efforts are underway rendering it an
environmentally irresponsible way to go.

Since it is considered a threatened species in its native habitat, many
designers prefer to specify an engineered veneer version which gives a nearly
identical look without cutting an endangered wood.

Engineered Veneer Zebrawood: All the Performance and Style; Plus
Environmentally Responsible!

Looking for alternatives to endangered natural woods, manufacturers have
made great technological advances to improve existing methods and invent new
ways to make more with less wood fiber resources. According to the APA - The
Engineered Wood Association
, North American production of most engineered
wood products is forecast to rise significantly which is great news for those
that love the zebrawood look.

In short, most of today's zebrawood is made from engineered veneer; this
environmentally friendly process begins with wood from fast growing trees such
as basswood, linden or poplar. The tree bark is peeled away and any wood
defects are removed. The remaining wood is reassembled into solid laminated
blocks that are dyed to create the zebrawood pattern. The next step involves
creating the veneer by slicing the block.

This engineered process creates a high quality veneer that mimics actual
zebrawood, but is environmentally responsible, and almost completely defect
free in color and grain consistency. A favorite choice for contemporary kitchen
cabinets
, this is great news for the many that desire zebrawood for their
kitchen interior.

 For zebrawood
kitchen cabinets
, the popularity continues to grow as sleek, linear
interior designs and environmental responsibility also grows. Zebrawood door
styles are designed in a decorative exotic wood veneer that has the highly
sought after, almost identical resemblance of Zebra stripes. Engineered
zebrawood also boasts a full range of design flexibility, style, and colors
including various dark and light brown tones that create the striking zebrawood
contrasts.

You'll find that Zebrawood makes a bold statement as a unique designer
choice to create African or Asian themes as well a one-of-a-kind style for the
ultimate contemporary kitchen. You'll find our Zebrawood in our Equinox
collection and we have available in light and dark styles.

Webinetry.com has redefined the U.S. cabinet industry by providing factory direct kitchen cabinets at greatly
reduced prices. In addition to everyday low prices, you will find the largest
