Modern platform bed dilemma...

I'm having a hell of time finding a stylish, streamlined and subtle platform bed that doesn't look like a set prop in a film about pimps.

But my god, it's going for $5,700 and that doesn't even include the shipping!
There is also the problem of finding a queen-sized mattress for it (the euro mattress sizing is different from those in US); so I'm just about to give up.
Has anyone come across anything cool that they'd recommend? I'd appreciate it with maybe a link or two.
Cheers,
F.
Frederick,
$5,000 plus is the going rate for a good bed.
Have you tried De La Spada?

I have seen their furniture first hand and trust me me when I say that it is very, very well built. The wood is incredible. It is not cheap, but then again you get what you pay for - most of the time.
My wife and I bought a platform bed from Against The Grain about 18 months ago. I don't see it on their web site anymore but here is the link.

They are a notch down from De La Spada but it is 30% to 40% less.
The problem seems to be the flood of cheap imported furniture from China. It is hard to fine mid-range, quality furniture since the West Elm, Crate & Barrel, CB2, etc. companies have forced a lot of boutique modern furniture store out of business - at least around here.
Good luck.
Here is a more reasonably priced bed from a new De La Spada company

The Minotti bed is also one of my favorites, but I wonder if it is worth the price.
Recently I found some very affordable and cool beds:

I really like the items produced from MASH studios. They're a botique furniture design firm based out of Los Angeles.
This particular platform bed ranges from $890 - 1,100 which is not THAT bad

Not sure if you've found a bed yet, but I recently purchased the Dodu Bed by Blu Dot. I absolutely love this bed! Great quality, wonderful design, good price, and no more bruised shins from running into sharp corners!

I got mine from a local place here in Miami and paid less than 3K for the whole set...I am pretty happy with my bedroom set...
Not much places selling modern furniture here in Miami
Have a look at Casa Di Luce website http://www.europeanartglass.com.
They sell Calligaris furniture (made in Italy but American sizes) and have quite nice platform beds: http://www.europeanartglass.com/details.php?ProductID=1395&Cat_ID=8
I'd be glad to help you with a platform bed built to your specifications. Most of mine run approx $2000 and come with bolt-on end tables. Having storage without 8 extra legs on the ground was my idea because im lazy and didn't like cleaning my concrete floors amidst all the extra furniture.
here is a photo of a table i built in 2007. its a platform bed with side tables that attach to the headboard.
Hey Friends,
I have bought my bed through internet. When i was searching on internet for some nice and stylists beds for my house. I have found a website www.kmpfurniture.com and also i have seen that there are lots of varieties of the different beds in the Beds section of that site and there are also nice collection of Sofas and other furniture.
If you are having an issue finding the mattress Ligne Roset sells a "Euro Queen" mattress starting at about $850.00 or $950.00 (in 2006) I am not sure if they went up since I bought mine, its just a few inches wider/ longer... Standard American queen sheets still fit it.
We got this bed from www.environment-furniture.com and love it. Expect to pay $5,000 + for a good bed, otherwise try Crate and Barrel. They do have a lot better looking modern furniture these days.
