Re: Opinion much appreciated MCM remodel

My husband and I recently purchased a Mid Century home.  I have until friday to decide if the planter around the staircase is to stay or go.

I am especially feeling the pressure given the background on the house: This house was designed and hand-built by the Local Mel Dalebout, inventor of the Daleboot ski boot.  The home design was inspired by the Great Frank Lloyd.  Locally, this home is has a history.

I am looking to keep the MCM feel of the house while introducing some modern touches and making the most of my space.  I have been told multiple times by multiple people that the space would be better utilized with a minimalist railing along the stairs, but I can't seem to part with this bulky period piece.

Would love to hear what you all think.
