Shades/Blinds for Horizontal Sliders

Posted by David Reich at January 20. 2008

I need a recommendation on shades or blinds to use for horizontal slider windows that are not standard size openings. Anyone have a some experience or a good resource? This is for a new simple modern cottage at the beach. www.beachinmod.blogspot.com Thanks, David.

Hey David -

Not knowing specifically what your issues are; I can recommend bottom-up roller shades to you. We recently finished our house, and these shades are great in that they have a very minimal impact on the room. They are like a traditional roller shade, but they are mounted on the bottom and pull up via a pulley mounted at the top of the window opening. In our case, the cord hangs directly in front of the stiles of the window, so it's practically invisible. We chose a linen-type of fabric that is quite neutral. Our window sizes are odd, and there was no issue regarding that. The nice thing is that you can leave them about half way up and still get a lot of light without a direct sight line into the room. I'm in L.A., and these were purchased from Aero Shade Co., 323.655.2411. If you're in L.A. I highly recommend them.
