EcoSteel questions

I'm finalizing the conceptual design on a 3000 sqft custom contemporary home. I'm been discussing different building systems with my architect, who has a commercial background.
- In Indiana, wood construction is king - so 2x4 with Icynene insulation is one of common 'green' construction methods.
- I've been looking at AAC too, but it looks cost prohibitive due to it being unfamiliar to local contractors.
- I learned about EcoSteel at a recent home show. It looks like an interesting solution that I'd like to learn more about.
How and when does EcoSteel typically engage a custom home project?
Does building with EcoSteel have similar costs to traditional construction?
The web page describing the EcoSteel Building System describes Windows and Doors being spec'd and installed by EcoSteel. Does the Client have any custom choice in the window/door selection process?
EcoSteel can begin to work with a customer at almost any stage. I often work with them to design customers homes from the start, and they also have customers that bring a design to the table. Keep in mind that while you can build just about anything with the system, some forms are easier and more straightforward to build. So knowing the system's strengths and what forms are more efficient goes a long way to getting the most for your money with the system.
Whether or not costs are similar to traditional construction will depend on the size and complexity of the project.
EcoSteel can work with many window manufacturer's so if you have a favorite brand in mind that is probably not a problem.
Have you called them to ask questions yet? I encourage you to do so - they are very approachable.
Greg,
I've exchanged emails and phone calls with EcoSteel. I've sent them drawings to provide budgetary pricing estimates. We decided to have me source all of the windows locally.
I understand that you are one of EcoSteel's preferred architects. How challenging is it to convert from traditional construction techniques/materials to EcoSteel? At some point, if I go with EcoSteel I need to have my architect work with someone knowledgeable about EcoSteel.
