I have a vision of a cohousing development in Denver. A multi-generational, income-level, family type, etc. lived near current or future(FasTracks) public transit. The structure, in my mind, is as green and pre-fab as possible. Furthermore, it's located in an area where The City of Denver? is so in support of it that they provide some funding. Enterprise Zone? Low-income housing? East Colfax is going to undergo a major transformation in the next 10 years or so.
Currently, my husband, daughter (5) and I live in West Highlands in an old hospital renovated into lofts. (really condos with a sexy name). We like it though it's not IT.
Anyone out there interested in forwarding this Modernist Cohousing conversation? And make it happen, say...within 3 years?

My project is sited near a light rail station, but it really consists of a bunch of duplex sites, so I can't quite see how cohousing could be incorporated. A possibility might be to assemble the group of like-minded people, who all buy these little scrape-offs as I'm doing. Then when you hit critical mass, the duplex design is submitted to modular manufacturers for a competitive bid. There SHOULD be pretty good savings to be had as the number of units goes up. With this scenario, the building sites don't even have to be near to each other.
Thanks Kevin.
I'm looking at a more traditional cohousing setup, except that the structure is simple, modern, efficient, sustainable, green, etc.
Individual living units, built for efficiency, yet a common building with larger kitchen and gathering area.
My vision includes folks/families of all sorts so people can work together with child care, learning, sharing vehicles, resources. Call it community.
Some folks might own their units, some folks might rent. Not everyone who wants to live there gets to. There would be a process by which folks apply and commit to certain criteria to live there.
