Hi Greg, I am a former Philadelphia resident (15 years in the city and the preceding 4 in a main line burb in college), now located in Portland, Maine.
I had seen Northern Steel's website and the Eco Steel cottages some time ago, and I just read about the 60/40 House over on fabprefab. I love the design with the redesigned interior that you have proposed.
After the prototype is built in Delaware, does Northern Steel have eventual plans to sell to individual homeowners rather than a minimum of five units?
Thanks,
Lisa (snowdog)
Yes, as far as I know the plan is to sell to individuals. Did you see something somewhere that led you to believe otherwise? The cottages are also sold to individuals, no minimum orders.
Also after the prototype is built I'll be working on some new designs.
Right the cottages are sold to individuals via the separate EcoSteel website, but in addition to being quite small, they're not modern designs. On the main Northern Steel website in the section on residential design - where there are some pictures of cool looking houses - it says, 5 unit minimum order -- developer or builder applications. No single unit orders are accepted at this time.

Thanks again, I hope you will post updates to this process on your blog.
I see. It's been a while since I looked at those pages. I am not sure who did the design for those nor how they were marketing them to. The 6040 House is ultimately going to have an independent web site as the cottages do and my understanding is they will be sold individually just as the cottages are. That site will expand as more designs come about. And I will track this through construction on my blog, you can be sure of it.
