NJ code requirements for radiant on net?

Posted by David Nuss at March 11. 2006

We'd like to install radiant heat in our condo on a small lower floor on a concrete slab and cover it with wood flooring.

We know there are a lot of issues with this but we'd like to start by finding out the code requirements in northern NJ. Our town building dept is notoriously unhelpful so that's why we're posting here.

Anyone know if it's as simple as an internet search for 'radiant heat building code nj' or something or is there a more relevant term?

We'll eventually need plumbing and possibly contracting help too but for now we need to find out if we can even do this in the first place.

Thanks!

Any local plumber or heating contractor who does radiant work will be versed in what specific code issues you will have. We have done radiant on a number of projects, and I am not sure if the system were even inspected too closely. There is no particular section in the NJ Uniform Construction Code, but there may be something in the National Standard Plumbing Code. I would start with finding a local installer. I am sure they will be able to answer any questions that you have. Good luck. Rich Carroll, AIA Lambertville, NJ www.carrollarchitects.net
