Philadelphia gaining reputation

Posted by Gregory La Vardera at October 07. 2005

... as a great place to live, visit, work. An article in the National Geographic Traveler magazine has proposed Philadelphia as one of Americas next great city. This follows on an article in the New York Times documenting a trend of New Yorkers coming to Philadelphia to live.

The NGT article describes the city as being beautiful, friendly, and having a quality of authenticity lacking in other places.

Gosh darn! Our secret is out folks!

BTW here is a link to that NYT story titled Philadelphia Story: The Next Borough (free registration req'd).

It's really about time people began to look at Philly as more than
a stepping stone between NYC and DC, or more than just that cute
rowhome city where they keep the Liberty Bell. As a lifetime resident,
it's almost astonsihing no one figured it out sooner...

The above article still has that slant to it, but it's good to see
people are getting fed up with the Manhattan-as-center-of-universe
mindset. As a creative, this is doubly so. I know more than a few
people who have done the Big Apple thing and returned to Philly,
including my girlfriend.
