REASONABLY priced MCM/California Contemporary - Dallas

Posted by Jaclyn Haley at April 10. 2008
My husband and I have been searching for a unique (preferably Cliff May) MCM home in Dallas and for the past year we've watched the MLS like a hawk! Of course it goes without saying that I love places like Kessler Woods but I don't have almost a million dollars and I do not need a house with that kind of square footage. I've even gone as far as calling a couple of architects asking why they aren't building moderns in moderate price ranges like they're doing in Austin.

I've discovered a trend in my MCM search:
1) Either the price is too high for our financial needs
2) We don't get the chance to make an offer because within hours of them hitting the MLS, the get sold
3) There simply aren't that many with respect to the size of the city - compared to places like Austin.

After doing a lot of construction cost research I've discovered that:
1) We can build our own "California Contemporary" (see image) with all the modern, green amenities
2) I've discovered an area within walking distance to White Rock Lake that still has land at VERY reasonable prices 3) There is an amazing modern builder I found that is willing to build this style of home at a decent price point.

This is a unique opportunity to buy a lot and build an affordable mid century modern style home in a highly desirable neighborhood of Dallas. This lot is not on the MLS and is not "actively" being marketed but is for sale to the right buyer. My husband and I are buying the adjacent lot as they are only being sold together - as a pair. This is a special opportunity to have the style of a MCM home, as well as the amenities of a brand new home! You can choose to work with the builder who will be constructing the adjacent lot (ours) OR you may choose to buy just the land and build your own style home. The cost to build is $100-110 per square foot average (excluding the land value), this will vary based on your construction choices. It's time for the Dallas landscape to reveal more than just McMansions!

*Please disregard this posting if I forget to delete it after April 17th. We will have purchased another lot by then if we don't get any replies
*Photos shown is a sample photo only. These photo are for reference ONLY.
*Walking distance to White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum
*10 minutes to downtown Dallas
*Wooded, quiet street

Jaclyn,

Would you mind e-mailing me the name of your builder?  We are in the same place that you are...  we are in the Dallas area and want a modern home, but nothing is affordable.

Did you get your land by White Rock?

Thank-you in advance...

There is an authentic Cliff May home currently for sale in Dallas. It is in Casa View on Millmar off of Ferguson and is priced below $140K.
