LOFT wALL material?

Posted by Dave at August 10. 2005

Looking for some help in finding a inexpensive translucent wall material for a wall that will need to be 8ft long and 10ft high. No load bearing.

I saw some nice stuff callet panelite on the dwell program but it would run into the thousands of dollars. any ideas on what to use and where to buy it. trying to avoid the cliche glass blocks.

Thanks

Check out this thread for ideas about cellular polycarbonate. It aslos comes in an opalescent version that is more translucentt than clear.

Also check out Lumasite (scroll to the bottom of the page to see what the panels look like.)

this might be too weird - but the image was so stiking that I cannot help to tell you about it.
wish that I could remember the artist - photo of loft (rought floors, exposed walls, wood colums
and such) between the two columns they wrapped a lot of industrial saran wrap material (think
protective coveriing for your luggage) - it was dense and slightly organic as opposed to rigid
and methodical (in the wrapping) - a drawing, sort of figural, but slightly organic cellular, was
drawn on both sides of the wrap - primarily black but I think that some red was also introduced.

now it was art - and you're looking for architecture - but it was the most amazing wall.

food for thought - btw, I'm dying to take some furniture to the airport and have it wrapped for
an interior project, random pieces selected from the thrift shop.

industrial plastic wrap is wicked cool. At the Electronics store I used to work at, we had some back in the warehouse. it was about 30 wide and came in black and white. if you'd like, I can contact them to see if I can find out where they got it.
